Every Child Matters

What’s it all about?

Every Child Matters: Change for Children is a national approach to improving the quality of life and well-being of ALL children and young people from birth to age 19.

The Government's aim is for every child, whatever their background or their circumstances, to have the support they need to:

Children and young people will also have far more say about issues that affect them as individuals and collectively.

Why do people in museums need to be aware of this?

ALL organisations involved with providing services to children - from hospitals and schools, to police and voluntary groups – are now being encouraged to find new ways of sharing information and working together, in order to protect children and young people from harm and help them achieve what they want in life.

So museums need to be ready to contribute to the shared Every Child Matters (ECM) agenda.
